Go (1999)

Cast: Katie Holmes (Claire Montgomery), Sarah Polly (Ronna Martin), Scott Wolf (Adam), Jay Mohr (Zack), Timothy Olyphant (Todd Gaines), William Fichtner (Burke)
For complete info on this amazing cast, see IMDb's Go page.
Go is slow in the beginning, but as soon as it gets to the point where you're seeing the same basic story through everyone's perspective, it gets very interesting and funny. The cast is wonderful. Every time someone else showed up, I was surprised at how deep the great casting goes.
This is definitely a very off-beat movie, but my husband and I enjoyed it. I'd say it's well worth renting or recording.

The Insider (1999)

Cast: Al Pacino (Lowell Bergman), Russell Crowe (Dr. Jeffrey Wigand), Christopher Plummer (Mike Wallace)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Insider page.
The Insider is based on the true story of a 60 Minutes episode about tobaco company malpractices that CBS wouldn't air due to the objections of their parent company (Westinghouse). It was very interesting to see what went on behind the scenes in the tobaco industry trials. The justifications of it by the tobaco companies blows my mind.
Russell Crowe shows a side we've never seen and clearly put on quite a bit of weight to play this roll. Very well done.

Cast: Tobey Maguire (Homer Wells), Charlize Theron (Candy Kendall), Delroy Lindo (Mr. Rose), Paul Rudd (Wally Worthington), Michael Caine (Dr. Wilbur Larch)
For complete info, see IMDb's The Cider House Rules page.
This movie about a man raised in an orphanage who decides to see the world is very well done. I haven't read the book, but the movie was a very good period piece. The cast is amazing and the oscar nomination was well-deserved. I'm glad I got to see The Cider House Rules before the awards, so that I can have a well-formed opionion about who deserves to win. It doesn't have my personal vote for best picture, but I believe it deserved the nomination.
Be prepared for ups and downs in this movie, but it's well worth seeing.

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

Cast: Matt Damon (Tom Ripley), Gwyneth Paltrow (Marge Sherwood), Jude Law (Dickie Greenleaf), Cate Blanchett (Meredith Logue), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Freddie Miles)
For complete cast, see IMDb's The Talented Mr. Ripley page.
This twisted tale of a young underachiever who decides to assume the life of a rich playboy when he's sent to retrieve him from Europe is very intriguing. I know some people who saw it and didn't get it, so I guess this is either a love it or hate it film. The Talented Mr. Ripley is not your run of the mill thriller and that's what I loved about it. I was interested in the story of Tom Ripley from the beginning of the movie and was captivated till the end of the movie. This movie actually makes you think, which is a refreshing change of pace.
If you haven't seen this yet, I highly recommend checking it out when you're in the mood for an intelligent thriller.

I really enjoyed this Tim Burton movie. I like the story of Sleepy Hollow and I love the way Tim Burton presented it! In Sleepy Hollow, we get to see Ichabod Crane's back story, which is very a great touch. Danny Elfman's music adds the perfect touch to the amazing cast and great scenic design and lighting.

What a movie! This movie about a guy starting a global organization to fight and vent aggression is amazing. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt are wonderful, as are the rest of the members of this cast. From the ads, I wasn't sure I needed to see this movie, but after seeing it, I'm very glad that I did. It's an amazing movie that makes you think about society and everyone's place in it.
I won't say too much, since I think this is a movie that needs to be seen to be believed. I think it's a great film and I highly recommend it.

Such an amazing movie, I don't know where to begin. Definitely Oscar-worthy!
The cast and story are wonderful and the direction and editing are superb. American Beauty is narrated by Lester, who tells us about how he decided to turn his miserable life around and ended up turning everyone else's life upside down in the process. A small-town guy with nothing to live for goes a little over the edge.

Jekyll & Hyde, tour, San Diego Civic Center (1999)

Cast: Chuck Wagner (Dr. Henry Jekyll & Edward Hyde), Sharon Brown (Lucy), Andrea Rivette (Emma Carew), and a wonderful supporting cast
As a fan of Jekyll & Hyde since the concept album was released, I was very excited about this tour. I really wanted to see Bring on the Men performed. Good N Evil was okay, but I knew Bring on the Men would be better.
Fortunately, the cast of Jekyll & Hyde is still totally amazing on tour. It surprises me that they altered the beginning and middle of this show, while they continue to do the same initially re-worked show on Broadway that they were doing when I saw the OBC, but I guess that's how producers work sometimes.
I really like the show a lot better on tour than I did on Broadway. The cast is still amazing. I've liked Chuck Wagner ever since Into the Woods and Sharon Brown since the west coast premiere of Rent and they're till wonderful.
The music is still wonderful and they've brought back some things that they took out in the Broadway production, which I think work better in the show.
My advice is to catch Jekyll & Hyde on tour if you can, rather than seeing it on Broadway. The show itself is much better and the cast is as good (and at times probably better)!

M. Night Shyamalan's movie totally blew me away. I grabbed my friend's arm in many parts of the movie and was definitely pretty thrown by the ending. Fortunately, I avoided press about The Sixth Sense and didn't know there was a twist. If I'd known, perhaps I would have been able to figure it out. I'm very glad I didn't. I suppose that this movie will always be my favorite of M. Night Shyamalan's for that reason. It caught me off guard.
The cast of The Sixth Sense is wonderful! They did a great job with this story and I highly recommend the movie.

Disney did a really good job with the story of Tarzan. I didn't read the books, but from what I read, I think Burroughs would be happy with what Disney did. The story is cute, the music is good, and the voice talents are wonderful!

The one scene (with the coffee, for those of you who have seen it) just goes beyond my tolerance level. Other than that, I enjoyed this movie a lot! I particularly love the relationship between Dr. Evil and Scott Evil! It's so funny! I also think Heather Graham did a great job and that she and Mike Myers interacted very well. Of course, Mike Myers is hilarious as always. Another funny Austin Powers movie.

What a great romantic comedy! I know it doesn't seem like it would be an ensemble cast with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts being a part of this movie, but William Thacker's friends really are one of the best ensemble casts ever assembled for a movie. This is such a sweet story about a guy who falls in love with one of the biggest movie stars ever when she enters his store and the way that changes his life and hers.
It's one of the best romantic comedies I've ever had the pleasure of seeing and I look forward to owning it on DVD someday.

For complete cast info, see IMDb's Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace page.
I was a huge Star Wars fan when I was younger. I had a lot of the toys, in spite of it not being a "girl" movie. I never really cared about those labels. Over the years, I grew out of my Star Wars phase, but I was still intrigued by the first three episodes finally being made. I had always wondered about them.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace was a semi-interesting beginning, but I think it could have been better done. I'm hoping that the second and third episodes will be better. Jar Jar Binks was unbearable. Perhaps he will be killed off soon. I will keep hoping...

Drew Barrymore shows up in a movie, and I'm there. The same now goes for Michael Vartan. The rest of this cast was also amazing!
Never Been Kissed is the perfect romantic comedy. Where else can the nerdy girl in high school go back to high school and get everything she always wanted when she was in high school the first time around while figuring out that friendship is what really matters in life. Almost the entire movie is told in a flashback while waiting for the final moment of the movie, which ties it all together. Very well told! Such a cute movie.

When the previews for this started, I thought this might be based on Anne Rice's book, but by a little bit into the first preview I realized this wasn't the case - what a bummer. That book would make a great movie. In any case, the movie looked very interesting and I still looked forward to seeing it and the special effects in a movie theatre.

I know this movie got trashed by critics, but I found it very entertaining. I think the cast did a very good job and that the story was solid. There were some good twists to make the plot a bit more interesting and fun to watch. The suspenseful scenes are broken up by comedy, making this a fun movie with some great comic moments. The end of Entrapment particularly impressed me. Though it wasn't a surprise, I think they pulled it off very well.
Definitely worth renting!
