You, Me and Dupree (2006)

Cast: Owen Wilson (Dupree), Kate Hudson (Molly), Matt Dillon (Carl), Michael Douglas (Mr. Thompson)
For complete info, see IMDb's You, Me and Dupree page.
Maybe my low expectations for this movie allowed me to enjoy it more, but I thought You, Me and Dupree was very worth renting. It's much funnier than I thought it would be and not exactly the standard romantic comedy plot, which was nice. If you missed this one in theatres, I'd recommend adding it to your rental list or catching it when it's on TV.

The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

Cast: Matt Damon (Jason Bourne), Julia Stiles (Nicky Parsons), David Strathairn (CIA Deputy Director Noah Vosen), Joan Allen (Pamela Landy)
For complete info, see IMDb's The Bourne Ultimatum page.
Another great Bourne movie. I love these movies and highly recommend catching this one in the theatre before it leaves. It was the one movie released last month that I knew I needed to see in a theatre because of all of the stunts and special effects. The Bourne Ultimatum did not disappoint me. I hope that they make the fourth book into a movie, too. They definitely left the movie open to the possibility of the sequel, but I know it's always up to who they can get to return, etc. I can't imagine why Matt Damon wouldn't do the next movie, though. They keep making high quality movies and they look like they'd be fun to shoot.
If you enjoyed the first two Bourne movies, you'll like this one, too. The action is still non-stop and the story line is good.

Ocean's Thirteen (2007)

Cast: George Clooney (Danny Ocean), Brad Pitt (Rusty Ryan), Matt Damon (Linus Caldwell/Lenny Pepperidge), Elliott Gould (Reuben Tishkoff)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Ocean's Thirteen page.
This is the movie they should have delivered last time. I definitely think that Ocean's Thirteen is worth seeing in a theatre, though the special effects weren't anything near those in Ocean's Eleven. The story in the third movie is much better than the second. Don't let Ocean's Twelve keep you from enjoying Ocean's Thirteen.
Definitely a fun summer action movie.

The Departed (2006)

Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio (Billy Costigan), Matt Damon (Colin Sullivan), Jack Nicholson (Frank Costello), Mark Wahlberg (Dignam), Martin Sheen (Captain Queenan), Vera Farmiga (Madolyn)
For complete info, see IMDb's The Departed page.
I've only seen three of the films nominated for best picture, but I'm pretty sure even after seeing the other two I'll still be happy that The Departed won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Although many people told me Leonardo DiCaprio did a great job in this movie and might have gotten the Best Actor Oscar if he'd been nominated for the right movie, I had serious doubts. (I've never been a fan of DiCaprio's work.) Leonardo DiCaprio did do a great job in The Departed. So did everyone else in this amazing cast.
The story of The Departed is very well thought out. It overlaps in many ways, making the movie interesting until the very last second. If you somehow managed to miss this movie in theatres, as I did, I highly recommend adding it to your Netflix list! The Departed is one of those must see movies that deserved every award it received.

The Good Shepherd (2006)

Cast:Matt Damon (Edward Wilson), Angelina Jolie (Clover/Margaret Russell), Alec Baldwin (Sam Murach), Tammy Blanchard (Laura), Billy Crudup (Arch Cummings), Robert De Niro (General Bill Sullivan, Director, Producer)
For complete information, see IMDb's The Good Shepherd site.
When you see people like Angelina Jolie take supporting roles in a movie, it's normally a good sign. The fact that Robert De Niro is producing, directing, and acting in a movie never hurts, either. The cast of The Good Shepherd is amazing. This story of how the CIA was formed is very well told. It's intriguing and kept me interested throughout the movie. Had it not been for the people who left (some to never come back), I wouldn't have noticed the length of this film.
I definitely recommend seeing The Good Shepherd in a movie theatre, even though it's definitely not a special effects laden movie.

Stuck on You (2003)

Cast: Matt Damon (Bob) & Greg Kinnear (Walt)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Stuck on You page.
I definitely didn't have high hopes for this movie, but I have to say that it was better than I expected. Not a great movie, but worth recording from a movie channel on Tivo or renting. It was entertaining and that's really all one could expect from a movie with such a silly premise.

Cast: Matt Damon (Jason Bourne), Franka Potente (Marie)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Bourne Supremacy page.
I'm a big fan of this series. One of these days, I really have to get the Robert Ludlum novels. I don't see where the series can go from the end of The Bourne Supremacy, but I know there is more, since there are four books and The Bournce Supremacy is only the second movie. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Robert Ludlum never ceases to surprise me with this series. I've never read any of his books, but I have a feeling once I do I'll be a fan.

The Bourne Identity (2002)

Cast: Matt Damon (Jason Bourne), Franka Potente (Marie Helena Kreutz), Chris Cooper (Alexander Conklin)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Bourne Identity page.
The Bourne Identity is a great action/thriller about a man (Jason Bourne) who is a trained assassin trying to recover from amnesia, while being the target of those he used to work for. The movie kept me interested the whole time and was very exciting.
The only issue I had with it was that they often had the driver on the wrong side of the car, which is really odd, since they say they filmed in Germany and other places overseas. I guess that the companies there rent American cars to the film-makers when they're there and they don't pay attention to the details sometimes. It was distracting sometimes to see drivers on the left-hand side of the car driving down streets that are clearly supposed to be in Europe, but the action kept me from thinking of that most of the time.
Non-stop action. I definitely recommend it.

For complete cast, see IMDb's The Legend of Bagger Vance page.
I'm not a fan of golf, but the cast of The Legend of Bagger Vance had me immediately interested in this movie. I wasn't disappointed. I think the cast is amazing and the story is very good. I think The Legend of Bagger Vance addresses the issues involved in picking up something you were very good at later in the game after having left it for years. It's very difficult to do and Bagger Vance's help was definitely needed in achieving that goal.
Definitely worth the time to watch this movie. Even if you don't like golf, give it a chance.

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

Cast: Matt Damon (Tom Ripley), Gwyneth Paltrow (Marge Sherwood), Jude Law (Dickie Greenleaf), Cate Blanchett (Meredith Logue), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Freddie Miles)
For complete cast, see IMDb's The Talented Mr. Ripley page.
This twisted tale of a young underachiever who decides to assume the life of a rich playboy when he's sent to retrieve him from Europe is very intriguing. I know some people who saw it and didn't get it, so I guess this is either a love it or hate it film. The Talented Mr. Ripley is not your run of the mill thriller and that's what I loved about it. I was interested in the story of Tom Ripley from the beginning of the movie and was captivated till the end of the movie. This movie actually makes you think, which is a refreshing change of pace.
If you haven't seen this yet, I highly recommend checking it out when you're in the mood for an intelligent thriller.

Rounders (1998)

Cast: Matt Damon (Mike McDermott), Edward Norton (Lester 'Worm' Murphy), Gretchen Mol (Jo), Famke Janssen (Petra)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Rounders page.
I knew very little about the world of professional gamblers until seeing this movie and I enjoyed learning about the inner workings. The cast is amazing and the story of a guy who's gotten out of the gambling world only to be dragged back in by an old friend fresh out of "the joint" is really wonderful.
Mike trusts Worm in the way that so many trust those they grew up with... He trusts him with his heart when his mind says it's not the best idea. And it drastically alters his life.
The idea of poker being all about skill for those who are best at it is definitely one that most people don't think about. However, it's clear that the same people are at the World Poker Tournament final round year after year. There has to be a reason for this fact and Rounders explores this, while following a very interesting story of a guy and one of his old friends from his gambling days.
This is a great movie with an amazing cast!

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Cast: Tom Hanks (Captain John H. Miller), Tom Sizemore (Sergeant Mike Horvath), Edward Burns (Pvt. Richard Reiben)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Saving Private Ryan page.
Great cast, very well done special effects, but just not quite what I thought it could be. With such a great plot, Steven Spielberg directing, Tom Hanks and the rest of the amazing cast, I figured this was a shoe in for a movie that would sweep me away and have me hoping it got best picture. Turns out that neither of these happened. The movie was okay, but not nearly as good as I thought it could be. And, I hope it doesn't get best picture, even though these kinds of movies tend to impress the academy.
Everyone who went to the movie with me was more impressed by Saving Private Ryan than I, but they still couldn't talk me into liking it more than I did. The movie really dragged for me. At over 2 1/2 hours that does happen sometimes, but I've been to 3-hour movies that seemed to fly and this was definitely not one of them. Instead, I found myself checking my watch and wondering how much longer it could possibly go on.
I guess this just wasn't my kind of movie, since I know almost everyone else out there loved it. I could have waited to rent it, though I do like to have seen all the Oscar nominees by the time the awards come around, so that makes seeing it in a movie theatre a good idea.

Good Will Hunting (1997)

Cast: Robin Williams (Sean Maguire), Matt Damon (Will Hunting), Ben Affleck (Chuckie Sullivan), Stellan Skarsgard (Prof. Gerald Lambeau), Minnie Driver (Skylar)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Good Will Hunting page.
Good Will Hunting is an amazing movie. Probably one of my favorites of all time. This movie about a brilliant janitor who sneaks around MIT completing impossible mathematic equations was very touching and real.
Some people have said that they found the swearing beyond excessive and totally unnecessary. Yes, there's a lot of swearing in Good Will Hunting. Is it over the top? Yes. Is it unnecessary? I don't think so. If you've ever gone to any inner city and listened to the language spoken, you'll find that swearing is very prevalent in normal conversations. I think the swearing in Good Will Hunting added to the feeling that the movie was about characters that are very real and allowed the audience to see what their lives were truly like.
Although I'm sure Titanic will get the best picture Oscar award, Good Will Hunting has my vote for best film of 1997.
