You, Me and Dupree (2006)

Cast: Owen Wilson (Dupree), Kate Hudson (Molly), Matt Dillon (Carl), Michael Douglas (Mr. Thompson)
For complete info, see IMDb's You, Me and Dupree page.

Maybe my low expectations for this movie allowed me to enjoy it more, but I thought You, Me and Dupree was very worth renting. It's much funnier than I thought it would be and not exactly the standard romantic comedy plot, which was nice. If you missed this one in theatres, I'd recommend adding it to your rental list or catching it when it's on TV.

King of California (2007)

Cast: Michael Douglas (Charlie) & Evan Rachel Wood (Miranda)
For complete info, see IMDb's King of California page.

This is a very dark comedy, in spite of the cheery cover. Evan Rachel Wood and Michael Douglas are great, but I never really got too invested in the story. Perhaps I couldn't get into the characters because they seemed a bit too over-the-top, even Charlie who's bipolar is a bit much for a typical bipolar at times.

I watched the whole movie, but it definitely didn't capture my attention as I would have expected with the cast. I'm guessing there are better movies you could rent, but if you're just killing time and you see King of California on HBO as you're passing by, it might be worth watching.

The Sentinel (2006)

Cast: Michael Douglas (Pete Garrison), Kiefer Sutherland (David Breckinridge), Eva Longoria (Jill Marin), Martin Donovan (William Montrose), Kim Basinger (1st Lady Sarah Ballentine)
For complete info, see IMDb's The Sentinel page.

Definitely not nearly as good as the great cast would indicate, but The Sentinel is worth renting. The story is a bit too predictable to have made it worth seeing in the theatre, so I guess it's good that we didn't have time to see it there.

As long as you don't expect too much, The Sentinel is worth renting. If you need an exciting movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this isn't it, though.

The In-Laws (2003)

Cast: Michael Douglas (Steve Tobias), Albert Brooks (Jerry Peyser), Ryan Reynolds (Mark Tobias), Lindsay Sloane (Melissa Peyser)
For complete cast, see IMDb's The In-Laws page.

This movie about a father who learns that his daughter's soon-to-be in-laws are smugglers. I have to say that this movie was much better than I expected from the previews. It's hilarious and the previews don't do it justice. Although it sounds like an old story line, this was a fresh take on it with a spy twist. I definitely recommend it as a rental, since I'm sure many people skipped it in theatres that would be surprised to enjoy it.

A Perfect Murder (1998)

Cast: Michael Douglas (Steven Taylor), Gwyneth Paltrow (Emily Bradford Taylor), Viggo Mortensen (David Shaw), Sarita Choudhury (Raquel Martinez)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's A Perfect Murder page.

I've always loved a good Hitchcock movie and this remake of Dial "M" for Murder was well done. I think Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow did a wonderful job. And of course, one of the best lines in a movie (delivery and actual quote) is "That's not happiness to see me is it?"... Such a great line in this movie.

I definitely recommend seeing this remake. Whether you've seen the original or not, I think it's an enjoyable way to spend some time. (Many of the people I know who've seen this version did not see the original.)

The Game (1997)

Cast: Michael Douglas (Nicholas Van Orton), Sean Penn (Conrad Van Orton), Deborah Kara Unger (Christine)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Game

I'm not sure I've ever seen a movie that kept me guessing this long. I won't say too much about it, but the previews didn't give too much away - heck, the first hour didn't give too much away.

This is one of the most interesting movies I've ever seen. The cast is wonderful and the writing is amazing. Every twist and turn makes the story more and more interesting.

Of course, any time you get Michael Douglas and Sean Penn in a movie together, it's gotta be good.

If you haven't seen The Game and you like movies with suspense, you have to see it!

The American President (1995)

Cast: Michael Douglas (President Andrew Shepherd), Annette Bening (Sydney Ellen Wade), Martin Sheen (A.J. MacInerney), Michael J. Fox (Lewis Rothschild)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The American President page.

I can't explain why this is one of my favorite movies (perhaps my favorite - even a decade later), but something about The American President really made me laugh and touched my heart - two things I love in a movie.

The cast of The American President is absolutely amazing. There's not a single actor in this movie who isn't wonderful. As I watched it, I kept being surprised by everyone I saw in the movie. This movie is so quirky and funny and treats the the president like a normal guy, which you rarely see in movies. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to go through a campaign like this in real life, but I think The American President did a good job of showing what it might be like.
