What Just Happened (2008)

Cast: Robert De Niro (Ben), Bruce Willis (Actor), Stanley Tucci (Scott Solomon), John Turturro (Dick Bell), Kristen Stewart (Zoe), Robin Wright Penn (Kelly), Sean Penn (Himself)
For complete info, see IMDb's What Just Happened page.

Considering the fact that great actors like Sean Penn & Robin Wright Penn played fairly minor roles in this movie, I was really surprised at how much What Just Happened disappointed me. Perhaps, I should have known it wouldn't be very good, since they chose not to put the question mark on the end and leave "What Just Happened" looking like a statement, rather than the question "What" makes the sentence.

I'd say skip this one, or at least put it low on your Netflix list. I watched the whole thing, but if I hadn't had other things to keep me busy, I probably wouldn't have bothered.

The Interpreter (2005)

Cast: Nicole Kidman (Silvia Broome), Sean Penn (Tobin Keller)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Interpreter page.

I was worried that this movie, which looked so good in the previews, would let me down, but it didn't. I think that The Interpreter was very well written. The cast was great and it was well directed. I also liked that it didn't have the typical Hollywood ending.

21 Grams (2003)

Cast: Sean Penn (Paul Rivers), Naomi Watts (Cristina Peck), Benicio Del Toro, (Jack Jordan), Danny Huston (Michael), Carly Nahon (Cathy)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's 21 Grams page.

In 21 Grams a strange accident brings together a critically ill mathematician, a grieving mother, and a born-again ex-con. It's a really well done movie that is well worth renting! With a better title and previews, I think that 21 Grams would have done a lot better!

Mystic River (2003)

Cast: Sean Penn (Jimmy Markum), Tim Robbins (Dave Boyle), Kevin Bacon (Sean Devine), Laurence Fishburne (Sgt. Whitey Powers), Marcia Gay Harden (Celeste Boyle), Laura Linney (Annabeth Markum)
For complete info on this wonderful cast, see IMDb's Mystic River page.

Wow! What a movie! This has my vote for best picture - hands down! What an amazing movie. Definitely a bit heavy. Not the kind of movie you want to see if you want to go out and just have a fun night without anything serious, but it is wonderful and I highly recommend it.

Clint Eastwood did an amazing job directing a superb cast. The story is great, I'm going to buy the book so that I can read the original, too.

By far my favorite 2003 movie. It blows the rest of them away. Make sure you put this on your list of films to see if it isn't already.

I Am Sam (2001)

Cast: Sean Penn (Sam Dawson), Michelle Pfeiffer (Rita Harrison), Dakota Fanning (Lucy Diamond Dawson)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's I Am Sam page.

I Am Sam is an incredibly touching story about a mentally retarded man (Sam) fighting for custody of his 7-year-old daughter (Lucy). The cast of this movie could not be better. I hadn't seen Dakota Fanning in anything before this movie, but I'm sure I'll see her in many movies to come. She is one of the most amazing child actors I've ever seen in a movie and from interviews on TV, she seems like a great person, so I'm sure good things will continue to happen in her career.

This movie is about more than just Sam's struggle. While he fights for his daughter, he ends up teaching his lawyer a lot about what is truly important in life. Wonderful messages in this movie. Heart-warming and wonderful!

The Game (1997)

Cast: Michael Douglas (Nicholas Van Orton), Sean Penn (Conrad Van Orton), Deborah Kara Unger (Christine)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Game

I'm not sure I've ever seen a movie that kept me guessing this long. I won't say too much about it, but the previews didn't give too much away - heck, the first hour didn't give too much away.

This is one of the most interesting movies I've ever seen. The cast is wonderful and the writing is amazing. Every twist and turn makes the story more and more interesting.

Of course, any time you get Michael Douglas and Sean Penn in a movie together, it's gotta be good.

If you haven't seen The Game and you like movies with suspense, you have to see it!
