The Nanny Diaries (2007)

Cast: Scarlett Johansson (Annie Braddock), Nicholas Art (Grayer), Chris Evans (Harvard Hottie), Donna Murphy (Judy Braddock), Alicia Keys (Lynette), Laura Linney (Mrs. X)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Nanny Diaries page.

I love Scarlett Johansson and she was great in this movie. As was Nicholas Art, the adorable boy who plays Grayer. The movie was entertaining. Definitely not the best I've seen (even that day, since we saw The Bourne Ultimatum earlier), but it was enjoyable and worth watching. I had this on my rental list and that's where I'd recommend you put it. Not worth seeing in a theatre, but cut and worth renting. Add it to your Netflix list.

Mystic River (2003)

Cast: Sean Penn (Jimmy Markum), Tim Robbins (Dave Boyle), Kevin Bacon (Sean Devine), Laurence Fishburne (Sgt. Whitey Powers), Marcia Gay Harden (Celeste Boyle), Laura Linney (Annabeth Markum)
For complete info on this wonderful cast, see IMDb's Mystic River page.

Wow! What a movie! This has my vote for best picture - hands down! What an amazing movie. Definitely a bit heavy. Not the kind of movie you want to see if you want to go out and just have a fun night without anything serious, but it is wonderful and I highly recommend it.

Clint Eastwood did an amazing job directing a superb cast. The story is great, I'm going to buy the book so that I can read the original, too.

By far my favorite 2003 movie. It blows the rest of them away. Make sure you put this on your list of films to see if it isn't already.

Love Actually (2003)

Cast: Bill Nighy (Billy Mack), Gregor Fisher (Joe), Colin Firth (Jamie Bennett)
For complete information on this wonderful cast, see IMDb's Love Actually page.

Since I loved the other movies they did, I was excited about Love Actually's release. In spite of my high expectations, Love Actually did not let me down. The cast of this great romantic comedy is amazing. The stories (about eight different couples) are so touching and very real.

The snipets and voice overs pull the whole movie together and make you realize that "Love actually is all around."

The Life of David Gale (2003)

Cast: Kevin Spacey (David Gale), Kate Winslet (Bitsey Bloom), Laura Linney (Constance Harraway)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Life of David Gale page.

This movie interested me right away because of the cast and the subject matter. The idea of someone who is against capital punishment (and an activist against it) being sent to death row is so perfect for a movie. What unfolds in The Life of David Gale is even more interesting than I could have imagined based on the previews.

This story continues to twist and turn throughout the movie, so you're never really sure exactly which way is up. I love movies that keep you guessing and The Life of David Gale did a great job with that, even though I often figure out movies too early.

The Truman Show (1998)

Cast: Jim Carrey (Truman Burbank), Laura Linney (Truman Burbank), Noah Emmerich (Marlon)
Complete info can be found at IMDb's The Truman Show page.

This movie about living your entire life in a reality show with no awareness of the outside world is really very well done. I was surprised, since it is FAR from the usual Jim Carrey fair. It's not outrageously funny. It's not beyond ridiculous. It's simply pleasant and very entertaining. Truman's world is turned upside down when he discovers the truth about his life and the way that he handles the truth. The movie starts out as a light comedy and then gets more serious as time goes on and is very well done.

I definitely recommend renting The Truman Show.

Absolute Power (1997)

Cast: Clint Eastwood (Luther Whitney), Gene Hackman (President Allen Richmond), Ed Harris (Seth Frank), Laura Linney (Kate Whitney)
For complete info, see IMDb's Absolute Power page.

As someone who enjoys a good conspiracy theory, this movie about a thief who witnesses a crime involving the President of the US definitely interested me. I enjoyed seeing Clint Eastwood in this one. Not very different from many of his roles, but different enough to keep me interested and that's really all I can ask of a movie for a couple hours.

The cast is wonderful and the story is really good. I definitely recommend renting this one.
