Nightmare Before Christmas 3D (2006)

Cast: Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Nightmare Before Christmas page.

Tim Burton's classic is even better in 3D! Everything I said in my initial Nightmare Before Christmas review still holds true and the 3D animation makes the movie all that more interesting.

It was also good to see Pixar's short Knick Knack animated in 3D, too. Of course, it was the Disney version (the mermaid and beach lady have no chests), but that doesn't change the spirit of the short at all. If you can catch Nightmare Before Christmas while it's playing in 3D, I highly recommend it!

Big Fish (2003)

Cast: Ewan McGregor (Ed Bloom - young), Albert Finney (Ed Bloom - old), Billy Crudup (Will Bloom)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Big Fish page.

This is a classic example of a situation where I shouldn't have allowed myself to be swayed by the critics and Golden Globe nominations. I like to have seen all the movies nominated by the Golden Globes (or at worst by the Oscars, since many get nominated for both), so I moved Big Fish from my Netflix list to my movies to see list and we saw it.

I fell asleep. That's how boring it was. And, worse yet, I didn't miss ANYTHING I hadn't already seen in the previews when I fell asleep. The scene where the world stopped and popcorn froze in the air (featured prominently in the previews) was the only truly cool scene in the movie.

Definitely a rental when you have nothing better to do. Don't even put it high on the Netflix list. You've seen most of the movie if you've seen a preview.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Cast: Johnny Depp (Constable Ichabod Crane), Christina Ricci (Katrina Anne Van Tassel), Miranda Richardson (Lady Mary Van Tassel), Michael Gambon (Baltus Van Tassel)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Sleepy Hollow page.

I really enjoyed this Tim Burton movie. I like the story of Sleepy Hollow and I love the way Tim Burton presented it! In Sleepy Hollow, we get to see Ichabod Crane's back story, which is very a great touch. Danny Elfman's music adds the perfect touch to the amazing cast and great scenic design and lighting.

If you like dark stories and are at all interested in the story behind Sleepy Hollow or Tim Burton movies, this is a must see!

Batman (1989)

Cast: Michael Keaton (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Jack Nicholson (Joker/Jack Napier), Kim Basinger (Vicki Vale), Robert Wuhl (Alexander Knox), Pat Hingle (Commissioner Gordon)
For complete cast, see IMDb's Batman page.

Every time I see this movie, I wish Tim Burton had been allowed to create ALL the Batman movies. The cast was amazing - especially Jack Nicholson as the Joker! Some of his lines were classics from almost the moment you first heard him say them on screen. (Like: Where does he get those wonderful toys?)

If you liked the Batman story in any form (comic books - which I haven't read, but friends of mine who have loved the movie, cartoons, TV show...), this version is a must see! They picked the best villain for the first movie, got a great cast, and did a great job with sets, lighting, costumes, and soundtrack. Batman is great!

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Cast: Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Nightmare Before Christmas page.

Tim Burton at his best! This Halloween/Christmas story is wonderful! Jack Skellington wants to try to be more like Santa Claus and hand out gifts instead of scaring kids. He's been the Pumpkin King for so long and he wants more. Of course, he doesn't quite understand how Santa does it, but that makes for a great story! This is the first fully stop motion animated film and it's amazing.

The Nightmare Before Christmas shows a lot more heart and feeling than most animated movies, since there is real sadness. The characters in this movie really seem to go through a lot. Sally's plight to try to escape the doctor and Jack's search for something more in his life are really well depicted. It's a great Halloween/Christmas tale for the whole family.
