Two Brothers (2004)

Cast: Guy Pearce (Aidan McRory), Jean-Claude Dreyfus (Administrator Normandin), Freddie Highmore (Young Raoul)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Two Brothers page.

This is such a sweet story. The tigers are adorable and I was amazed at how much I was drawn in by them. Two Brothers actually made me cry. I know, I'm a total sap for being so sad about a couple of tiger cubs, but they're adorable and the story is heart-wrenching.

Definitely a great rental. I would have felt silly in a movie theater (probably one full of little kids) crying.

The Time Machine (2002)

Cast: Guy Pearce (Alexander Hartdegen), Mark Addy (David Filby), Phyllida Law (Mrs. Watchett)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Time Machine page.

I never saw the original, but in spite of the bad reviews The Time Machine seemed to accumulate, I really enjoyed it. Alexander is determined to prove that time travel is possible and when personal tragedy strikes, he tries to go back in time to change the course of history. Instead, he ends up 800,000 years in the future discovering that mankind is now divided and that those who aren't hunters are hunted.

The cast is great and the movie is well done. Perhaps if I'd seen the original I wouldn't think that, but I haven't and I really enjoyed The Time Machine. It's not the best movie I've ever seen and I'm not going to go out and buy it, but it's definitely worth seeing!

Memento (2001)

Cast: Guy Pearce (Leonard), Carrie-Anne Moss (Natalie), Joe Pantoliano (Teddy Gammell)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Memento page.

I heard that Memento was great when it was in the theaters, but somehow I didn't get around to seeing it, till a friend ownded it and I saw it on DVD. What a mistake. I should have listened to those who saw it in theaters. This is an amazing movie!

With the main story going backwards and the clips of Leonard's client going forwards, this movie is mind-boggling the first time you see it. I'm glad I didn't buy it immediately, since I was able to get the collector's edition, which allows you to watch the whole movie in chronological order as one of the special features. That's really cool!

I can't recommend this amazing movie highly enough. I've never seen a movie that is so completely unique. Memento allows you to decide what to believe and what not to believe. It doesn't spell the entire story out for you or assume that you're not intelligent enough to figure it out for yourself and I LOVE that about this movie! It's one of my favorite movies of all time and probably always will be.

Rent this movie! See it now and watch the special features. It's well worth it!

L.A. Confidential (1997)

Cast: Kevin Spacey (Det. Sgt. Jack Vincennes), Russell Crowe (Det. Sgt. Jack Vincennes), Guy Pearce (Det. Sgt. Jack Vincennes), James Cromwell (Capt. Dudley Liam Smith), Kim Basinger (Lynn Bracken)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's L. A. Confidential page.

What an amazing movie! The way L.A. Confidential addressed the issue of corruption and politics involved in police investigations was very interesting. This is one of the best period pieces I've ever seen. They did a great job with making you feel like you were watching a story unfold that was taking place in another time. Everything was very well assembled to create the story of a big murder investigation and the politics that surroud it.

Each officer has his own way of dealing with the situation. Some of them use the situation to their advantage, and they all learn the reality of dealing with corruption.

A wonderful period piece that will always be a great movie to watch!
