Zodiac (2007)

Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal (Robert Graysmith), Mark Ruffalo (Inspector David Toschi), Anthony Edwards (Inspector William Armstrong), Robert Downey Jr. (Paul Avery)
For complete info, see IMDb's Zodiac page.
I haven't read the books or seen any of the other movies about the zodiac killer, but unsolved mysteries always intrigue me. The cast of Zodiac is amazing. If I was still seeing a lot of movies in theatres, this would have definitely been on my list, but I prefer to rent them most of the time now.
They describe Zodiac as a thriller, but I’m not sure I agree with that. Perhaps a very mild thriller. It wasn’t exactly scary, as most thrillers are, but it was an interesting crime drama with a the added bonus of being an unsolved mystery. Since no one really knows for sure what happened, it made the movie more interesting.
I definitely recommend renting Zodiac. It’s a very well done suspenseful movie.

Rumor Has It... (2005)

Cast: Jennifer Aniston (Sarah Huttinger), Kevin Costner (Beau Burroughs), Shirley MacLaine (Katharine Richelieu), Mark Ruffalo (Jeff Daly), Richard Jenkins (Earl Huttinger)
For complete info, see IMDb's Rumor Has It... page.
The funniest thing about this movie (for Melissa, David, and I, who saw it while Tom was working) was the drama in the theatre before the movie. There was a horrible woman who was mean to people who came in late by her definition (but quite a bit before the movie started). Names were thrown back and forth, people stormed out... More excitement than I'd seen in a movie theatre since A Knight's Tale caught on fire right before the climactic scene in the movie.
That being said, this movie where a woman learns that her family is the Robinsons from The Graduate is very entertaining. I think I got exactly what I expected from the movie. It was a light comedy with a great cast (even Kevin Costner didn't annoy me much). Sure, it was a bit over the top and sappy, but this family is supposed to be the family that The Graduate was based on - what would you expect from them?
Although this movie is probably not worth seeing in theatres, it is very entertaining and I'd recommend renting it.

Just Like Heaven (2005)

Cast: Reese Witherspoon (Elizabeth Masterson), Mark Ruffalo (David Abbott), Donal Logue (Jack Houriskey), Dina Spybey (Abby Brody)
For complete cast, see IMDb's Just Like Heaven page.
Just Like Heaven is a cute romantic comedy, but nothing earth-shattering. I was a little disappointed, since Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo are some of my favorite actors. The script didn't really measure up to their talent, but it was still very cute and endearing. As long as you're just looking for a light romantic comedy, this is a good rental. Definitely worth watching if you love romantic comedies as long as you don't expect it to be at the top of your list of favorites at the end.

Collateral (2004)

Cast: Tom Cruise (Vincent), Jamie Foxx (Max), Jada Pinkett Smith (Annie), Mark Ruffalo (Fanning)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Collateral page.
What a movie! The previews didn't tell you as much of the plot as it seemed, which is always a good thing! This movie really surprised me at times and was very well done. Of course, from the cast that signed on, this is not surprising.
This was the first time I really saw Jamie Foxx show what he can do and stretch himself in a roll and I was very impressed!
Some of the lines in Collateral are so impressive! The one that was in all the previews about the bullet and the fall (not Vincent) killing the guy cracks me up every time.
I highly recommend this movie!

13 Going On 30 (2004)

Cast: Jennifer Garner (Jenna Rink), Mark Ruffalo (Matt Flamhaff)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's 13 Going on 30 page.
From the previews, I was expecting 13 Going On 30 to be the female version of Big. I love Big and I'm a big fan of Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, so the decision to see 13 Going On 30 was simple.
I was very pleasantly surprised that 13 Going On 30 wasn't just a female version of Big. In fact, as much as I love Big, I think I enjoyed 13 Going On 30 even more. Perhaps it's because I'm 30 and all the music took me back to when I was younger, but I really got into this movie. I left the movie dancing. I had so much fun with the 80's music and the story. It was such a great romantic comedy.

View from the Top (2003)

Cast: Gwyneth Paltrow (Donna Jensen), Christina Applegate (Christine Montgomery), Mark Ruffalo (Ted Stewart), Candice Bergen (Sally Weston)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's View from the Top page.
Normally when a movie gets pushed back a year or more from its original release date, it's not a good sign. In spite of 9/11 being the first thing to push back the release of View from the Top, the movie was much the same as other movies that get pushed back a couple years.
For a movie about a small-town girl who dreams of being a flight attendant and traveling the world, View from the Top isn't bad. Of course, when you look at who's in the movie (Gwyneth Paltrow, Christina Applegate, Mark Ruffalo, ...), you expect it to be better than the plot implies and that's not the case.
It's an okay comedy, but nothing special here.
