He's Just Not That Into You (2009)

Cast: Ginnifer Goodwin (Gigi), Scarlett Johansson (Anna), Bradley Cooper (Ben), Justin Long (Alex), Ben Affleck (Neil), Jennifer Aniston (Beth), Jennifer Connelly (Janine), Drew Barrymore (Mary), Wilson Cruz (Nathan), Kris Kristofferson (Ken Murphy)
For complete info on this amazing cast, see IMDb's He's Just Not That Into You page.
Initially, I thought a movie based on the hilarious book He's Just Not That Into You wouldn't be done well enough. Then, the cast was announced and I thought there was no way they'd get that many well-known cast members if the script wasn't well done. Turns out, I was right.
Other than using the title at an appropriately timed place in the beginning of the movie, the title is never used. No one actually says, "He's just not that into you," though they say similar things throughout the movie. I think it was very well done and is a hilarious movie worth seeing (in a theatre or renting it). If I hadn't had friends interested in going, I probably would have rented He's Just Not That Into You. It won't lose anything on the small screen, but I'm still glad I saw it.
One thing I really like about the movie is that it's NOT all women misjudging men. There are guys who don't necessarily get it, too. It helps to show that misunderstanding the (often very clear) messages from the opposite sex is something men and women both have to handle.
I also really loved seeing Greg Behrendt (most public author of the book) in the movie as the minister in a scene. He didn't say anything, but he looked right at the camera and I think it's good that he was a part of the movie. I'm sure it helped to keep the movie on target and funny.
Clearly, it won't be nominated for any awards, but He's Just Not That Into You is a very enjoyable chick flick.

Blood Diamond (2006)

Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio (Danny Archer), Djimon Hounsou (Solomon Vandy), Jennifer Connelly (Maddy Bowen)
For complete info, see IMDb's Blood Diamond page.
Blood Diamond is definitely not your typical action/adventure movie. The story behind the movie is very moving. The conflict in Africa is depicted very well. The acting is amazing and the story is very well done. Blood Diamond is definitely not a movie for anyone who's looking for an uplifting or light movie. You have to be in the mood for a serious movie with depressing themes when you watch this film.
DiCaprio's accent slipped at a couple points, which bothered me. He shouldn't have been nominated for best actor for his role in Blood Diamond. He did much better in The Departed.
If you missed Blood Diamond in theatres, it's definitely worth renting when you're ready for a serious movie.

Little Children (2006)

Cast: Kate Winslet (Sarah Pierce), Patrick Wilson (Brad Adamson), Jennifer Connelly (Kathy Adamson), Jackie Earle Haley (Ronnie J. McGorvey), Gregg Edelman (Richard Pierce), Sadie Goldstein (Lucy Pierce), Ty Simpkins (Aaron Adamson)
For complete info, see IMDb's Little Children page.
Now that I've seen Little Children, I'm upset that Babel won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Drama and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture instead of Little Children. I still think The Departed deserved to win for Best Picture, but I thought Little Children was quite a bit better than Babel. I also think Jackie Earle Haley deserved to win best Actor in a Supporting Role, since he was really amazing in this movie.
The documentary styled voice-over in Little Children is pretty bizarre and it took me a little time to get used to the way Little Children was narrated. However, I think the concept worked very well for the movie, since Little Children is definitely not a typical movie. It's a complex movie that, in spite of many scenes not involving the children, revolves around the children throughout the story.
The interwoven story lines in Little Children kept me interested for the entire movie. This story would not have been nearly as interesting without all of the components being so wonderfully joined. Little Children is definitely more of an intellectual movie and a drama, so be sure you're in the mood for that before watching it (I'm not sure my husband was and that may have affected what he thought of the movie overall).
If you missed this in the theatre, I highly recommend renting Little Children to see it now. You'll miss nothing on the smaller screen and Little Children is a very well done movie with an exceptional cast.

Hulk (2003)

Cast: Eric Bana (Bruce Banner), Jennifer Connelly (Betty Ross), Sam Elliott (Ross), Josh Lucas (Talbot)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Hulk page.
As a big fan of the TV series when I was younger, I couldn't wait for the movie to come out. From the moment I heard they were actually filming, I thought of all they could do with today's special effects. They had a great cast lined up and that assured me that it would be a great movie.
I couldn't have been more wrong. They may have had more money and more special effects, but if you want to see the Hulk in any form, I suggest you rent the TV series from Netflix. Surely, it's on DVD by now.
I have no idea how Ang Lee could have managed to go so horribly wrong, but The Hulk definitely was one of the most horrible movies with a big budget I've ever seen in a movie theater. I guess I should have waited to rent it.

A Beautiful Mind (2001)

Cast: Russell Crowe (John Nash), Ed Harris (Parcher), Jennifer Connelly (Alicia Nash), Paul Bettany (Charles)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's A Beautiful Mind page.
This story of a brilliant man dealing with the mathematical problems he allows to take over his life and his secret work is my pick for best picture of 2001. It's wonderfully written and has the perfect cast. Everyone in A Beatiful Mind did an amazing job. It's one of those movies you can't say much about without giving anything important away, but go see it!
