In the Bedroom (2002)

Cast: Tom Wilkinson (Matt Fowler), Sissy Spacek (Ruth Fowler), Nick Stahl (Frank Fowler), Marisa Tomei (Natalie Strout), William Mapother (Richard Strout)
For complete info, see IMDb's In the Bedroom page.

This story about a man who falls in love with a young mom with a nutty recent ex-husband was something that said "rental" to me from the first moment I saw the preview. Why do I feel the need to see the Oscar noms before the Oscars regardless of my strong feelings that some of them are not movies that I need to see in a theatre otherwise? Crazy Oscar obsession... Perhaps I'll get over it and just see those movies as rentals after the Oscars and not have a strong opinion on some of the nomintaions that night...

Although the story had potential, the movie never really got to the point where I was emotionally involved with the characters. In a movie like In the Bedroom, caring about the characters is essential. Since I never got to that point, the movie was definitely lacking something for me.

I'd say rent this one, since it's interesting, but not too moving.
