Iron Man (2008)

Cast: Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Terrence Howard (Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes)), Jeff Bridges (Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts)
For complete information, see IMDb's Iron Man page.
Perhaps it was all the hype. Perhaps it was the parts of the previews I saw.... Whatever it was that raised my hopes, I expected more from Iron Man. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie and I'm glad that I rented it and that I own a great TV. However, I wasn't super impressed. I thought The Dark Knight was quite a bit better and have enjoyed quite a few movies based on characters from the comics more than I liked Iron Man.
The cast is amazing and the story is okay, but not stellar. The costume is good and perhaps if I had seen Iron Man in a movie theatre I would have been more impressed. Worth renting, but not close to my favorite movie of 2008.

The Vanishing (1993)

Cast: Jeff Bridges (Barney Cousins), Kiefer Sutherland (Jeff Harriman), Nancy Travis (Rita Baker), Sandra Bullock (Diane Shaver)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Vanishing page.
I'm a huge fan of Jeff Bridges and Kiefer Sutherland, so I had to check this out when I noticed it when searching the movie channels. It's probably one of my least favorite Jeff Bridges performances, but the movie was still very entertaining. It's amazing how little Sandra Bullock has changed over the years. She looks exactly the same in the most recent movie I saw her in (Premonition).
The Vanishing initially seemed like it was going to be a movie just about abductions. Then, it seemed like it would concentrate on revenge. However, this mystery/thriller managed to stay interesting throughout the movie, since you never really knew exactly where it was going. It's a bit dated, but definitely worth watching if you get the chance - even if it's just to see a younger Kiefer Sutherland.

Stick It (2006)

Cast: Jeff Bridges (Burt Vickerman), Missy Peregrym (Haley Graham), Vanessa Lengies (Joanne Charis), Nikki SooHoo (Wei Wei Yong)
For complete info, see IMDb's Stick It page.
If you love gymnastics (as I do), this is probably a must see for you, in spite of the weak story line. Definitely worth renting. The story isn't that bad and the gymnastics are good. They even include some of the full routines in the extra features and introduce you to all of the gymnasts who did the gymnastics for the movie, which was a nice touch.
It was also good to see Jeff Bridges, as it always is. Nothing too exciting in this movie. Stick It was exactly what I expected and I enjoyed it for the silly mindless movie it is.

Seabiscuit (2003)

Cast: David McCullough (Narrator), Jeff Bridges (Charles Howard), Chris Cooper (Tom Smith), Tobey Maguire (Red Pollard)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Seabiscuit page.
I love horses and this movie sounded like it was just my kind of flick. Instead, it seemed a lot longer than it was, since I was bored out of my mind.
Had I been prepared for a documentary instead of a major motion picture, perhaps I could have enjoyed it. If I'd been at home watching Discovery Channel or the History Channel, that'd be one thing. But I wasn't. I was at a movie theater, where we'd all paid plenty of money. I didn't want to be educated. I wanted to be entertained. The black and white clips and the narrating bothered me more than I could say.
I never got interested in Red or Seabiscuit or anyone else in the movie. I just wanted the boring movie to end, which it did... eventually.

K-Pax (2001)

Cast: Kevin Spacey (Prot), Jeff Bridges (Dr. Mark Powell), Mary McCormack (Rachel Powell), Alfre Woodard (Dr. Claudia Villars)
For complete info, see IMDb's K-Pax page.
This movie about a mental patient who claims to be from another planet is really good. Prot ends up getting his doctor to doubt his own beliefs about the world, which is really nice to see in a movie. Not what I expected based on the previews, but a very good movie.
The cast is amazing, the story is good, and the movie is touching. Sure, the story is a bit unbelievable, but that's part of the point.

For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Big Lebowski page.
The cast is wonderful. Everyone I went to the movie with loved it. Why did I hate it? I'm not really sure. I can't put a finger on it, but it struck me as a lot like Get Shorty, which I couldn't stand, either. It wasn't mob-related, but somehow the bowling alleys and lack of a plot I could care about left me wondering when the movie would end. It seems like that's all I wondered as I watched it - when would it be over?
