Tell No One (2008)

Cast: Francois Cluzet (Docteur Alexandre Arnaud 'Alex' Beck), Marie-Josee Croze (Margot Beck), Andre Dussollier (Jacques Laurentin), Kristin Scott Thomas (Helene Perkins)
For complete info, see IMDb's Tell No One page.
As long as you're okay with reading subtitles (or understand French), I would definitely recommend Tell No One. The story is interesting and had me guessing about many aspects of the case throughout the film. The cast is amazing and the movie held my attention until the very end. I figured out portions of the story, but never fully put everything together until it was spelled out and that's rare for me in a movie.
I recommend renting this one and dealing with the subtitles. It's worth the trouble!

Gosford Park (2001)

Cast: Maggie Smith (Constance Trentham), Michael Gambon (William McCordle), Kristin Scott Thomas (Sylvia McCordle), Camilla Rutherford (Isobel McCordle)
For complete info, see IMDb's Gossford Park page.
I had to see this before the Oscars because of the best picture nomination (among others). It definitely won best original screenplay for a reason. Gossford Park is a very well written movie with an amazing cast. This story, set in 1932, shows the lives of the guests upstairs and the servants downstairs at a country house party in England.
Robert Altman does a great job directing Gossford Park and the overlapping dialogue is something you rarely see done this well in a movie. So much is going on, yet somehow you manage to catch everything. I don't think Gossford Park is for everyone, since some of the people who saw it when I did clearly didn't understand a few things and I ended up explaining them on our way out of the theatre. However, if you enjoy a good mystery and like a movie that makes you think, this is definitely the movie for you.

The Horse Whisperer (1998)

Cast: Robert Redford (Tom Booker), Kristin Scott Thomas (Annie MacLean), Sam Neill (Robert MacLean), Scarlett Johansson (Grace MacLean), Dianne Wiest (Diane Booker)
For complete info, see IMDb's The Horse Whisperer page.
After a horrible fall, a special horse trainer is in to help the daughter and horse work through their problems and get back out there. Parts of The Horse Whisperer were so beautiful cinematically. Parts of it were wonderful and touching and very interesting. And parts of it seemed to drag on forever.
I thought that there was enough of a mix of the beautiful and interesting portions of the movie to see it, so it's definitely worth renting, but with a runtime of almost three hours, don't expect it to be like Braveheart where you barely realize that you were there for over an hour. At times, you will really feel how long the movie is.

The English Patient (1996)

Cast: Ralph Fiennes (Count Laszlo de Almasy), Juliette Binoche (Hana), Willem Dafoe (David Caravaggio), Kristin Scott Thomas (Katharine Clifton)
For complete cast, see IMDb's The English Patient page.
A nurse tending a badly burned plane crash victim at the end of WWII as his past is shown in flashbacks, revealing his involvement in a love affair. I know this movie is only getting raves. And I enjoyed it, but at times it really dragged. At over 2 1/2 hours, there were some points that I thought could have been trimmed to make the story move a bit faster. Of course, when you're being taken care of and badly burned, all time seems to take an eternity, I'm sure. Perhaps that was part of what they wanted the audience to experience in the movie, but I would have enjoyed it more without that aspect. The love story was well done, though, and clearly the movie won a lot of awards, so it's well worth renting if you haven't seen it already.

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)

Cast: Hugh Grant (Charles), James Fleet (Tom), Simon Callow (Gareth), John Hannah (Matthew), Kristin Scott Thomas (Fiona), David Bower (David)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Four Weddings and a Funeral page.
Who ever thought one could enjoy a movie that includes funeral in its title?? Of course, when the three weddings come first, then the funeral, I was wondering where the fourth wedding was... ;-)
The cast and creative team of Four Weddings and a Funeral are absolutely superb. And who doesn't like seeing men in tuxes and women in gorgeous gowns?
This is one of the first movies where I learned to adore Hugh Grant. And the rest of the cast is wonderful - especially the group of great actors who play his best friends. I hope to see them all in many more movies!
