Hope Floats (1998)

Cast: Sandra Bullock (Birdee Pruitt), Harry Connick Jr. (Justin Matisse), Gena Rowlands (Romona Calvert), Mae Whitman (Bernice Pruitt), Michael Pare (Bill Pruitt), Cameron Finley (Travis), Kathy Najimy (Toni Post)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Hope Floats page.

After being dumped on a national TV show (similar to Jerry Springer), Birdee returns to the small town she grew up in and her mother's home to try to piece her life back together. I know this movie got a lot of bad reviews, but I think that if you go into it expecting to get a sweet story about a woman pulling her life together after being publicly humiliated, you'll find it. I really enjoyed this movie. I think the acting is very good and the story is sweet. I'm a sucker for a romantic comedy - even one that includes country music, which is normally not my cup of tea. If you missed this one, consider renting it.

Hocus Pocus (1993)

Cast: Bette Midler (Winifred 'Winnie' Sanderson), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah Sanderson), Kathy Najimy (Mary Sanderson), Omri Katz (Max Dennison ), Thora Birch (Dani)
For complete info, see IMDb's Hocus Pocus page.

This movie should have been released in October, since it's the perfect Halloween movie. The story of witches who were brought back to life 300 years later, leaving a couple teenagers & a younger sister to stop them from taking the life-force away from all the town's children. It's a fairly thin plot and easy to read, but this is a kids movie. I think it was very well done. The cast is wonderful - especially the witches.

My favorite part is probably when Sarah is talking about running amuck and bounces around saying "Amuck, amuck, amuck, amuck." Very cute. And who doesn't like a talking black cat in a Halloween movie? I definitely recommend this if you have kids or can appreciate younger humor. It's a very well done movie.
