August Rush (2007)

Cast: Freddie Highmore (Evan Taylor - 'August Rush'), Keri Russell (Lyla Novacek), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Louis Connelly), Terrence Howard (Richard Jeffries), Robin Williams (Maxwell 'Wizard' Wallace)
For complete info on this wonderful cast, see IMDb's August Rush page.

It took me a while to see this movie, partly because I didn't really know what it was about and even now that I've finally seen it, I don't remember seeing any promotional information on the movie. I really enjoyed August Rush. Anyone who loves music and isn't put off by a romantic movie should really enjoy this film. Of course, I added August Rush to my Netflix list because of the cast. Almost any of the main actors could get me to watch a movie on their own. Together, they're well worth taking the time to see any movie.

Initially, I wasn't happy with the way that the flashback format seemed to be working, but as the story progressed, I understood why the story was put together the way it was and I really enjoyed the way everything came together. I highly recommend adding August Rush to your Netflix list if you enjoy music, romance, or both.

The story of a child prodigy who is discovered while trying to find his real parents is moving and thoroughly enjoyable.

Mission: Impossible III (2006)

Cast: Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt), Ving Rhames (Luther Strickell), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Owen Davian)
For complete info on this amazing cast, see IMDb's Mission: Impossible III page.

Just as the cast continued to improve with each of the Mission: Impossible movies, the movies got much better with each new installment. I was very unimpressed with the first Mission: Impossible movie. The second was a lot better and a pretty good movie. Mission: Impossible III is very good! We saw it in a digital theater and it was definitely worth doing that for the special effects. If only it was on a giant screen digitally...

Perhaps the fact that this movie is better than the others has something to do with J. J. Abrams (Alias, Lost) taking over as director of this installment of the series. I hope he does the 4th movie!

I definitely recommend catching this Mission: Impossible movie in a movie theater before it goes away. With The Da Vinci Code, Posseidon, and X-Men: The Last Stand coming out this month, I'm not sure how long that'll be.

The special effects were wonderful. The cast was amazing. I couldn't believe how many great actors they got to be in this movie. Good to see that Tom Cruise's crazy antics haven't scared away any of the big players in the industry for movie purposes. :-)

Naturally, parts of the movie were very predictable and easy to figure out, but it was still a very enjoyable way to spend a couple hours and worth the money spent!

Match Point (2005)

Cast: Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (Chris Wilton), Matthew Goode (Tom Hewett), Emily Mortimer (Chloe Hewett Wilton), Scarlett Johansson (Nola Rice), Brian Cox (Alec Hewett), Penelope Wilton (Eleanor Hewett)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's Match Point page.

In spite of the amazing reviews (I read only titles, but the titles were clear), I was wary of Match Point for two reasons. 1. I'm typically not a Woody Allen fan (at all) and 2. A friend of mine told me it was a great movie with a horribly depressing soundtrack and if she had to see it again, she'd do it with ear plugs, since the opera was in every scene and too depressing. I really can't stand opera, so I worried that I might feel the same way, though I thought she was being a bit melodramatic...

Turns out that I loved Match Point. It's definitely not a happy go-lucky movie, but I didn't expect it to be from the little I had heard. I'm certainly not going to rush out and buy the soundtrack (which was all opera), but I thought that the opera was very fitting to the movie. The story is amazing. Quite frankly, I can't believe it was written by Woody Allen. I was blown away. There are so many twists and I really predicted a few other things to happen. The way they connected the intro to the end of the movie was beautiful. The cast is amazing, which I knew before seeing Match Point, but they show their depths even more in this movie.

I highly recommend you see this in movie theaters if you can still catch it. If not, it's definitely a must for your rental list!
