I somehow never found the time to see Avenue Q in the years it played Off-Broadway or in the first couple years on Broadway. Perhaps (in part) it's because I felt Wicked deserved the Best Musical Tony. For the record, I still do. However, Avenue Q is a great show. It's fun, funny, and has great music. Even with the original cast mostly gone, the show is amazing. The cast is great! They do a wonderful job with the puppets and the music. I definitely recommend seeing this show if you've missed it so far.
Avenue Q is a hilarious show that makes fun of almost everything and has puppets that are much more fun to watch than Sesame Street could ever hope to achieve. Somehow, R-rated puppet scenes are funny. And the puppets are a lot cuter and more interesting than the Sesame Street puppets (from what I remember, I wasn't a huge fan).
This show is fun for everyone old enough to understand the humor in every situation. In spite of the puppets, this isn't a kids show and the audience seemed to understand that. I didn't see any parents with 4-year-olds like I did when I went to see the first Blade movie. I'm sure Avenue Q will be around for a long time, but why wait? It's a hilarious show with good music. Check it out!
