Broadway: The Golden Age, by the Legends Who Were There (2003)

Cast: To see all the amazing Broadway stars who appear in this movie, check out IMDb's Broadway: The Golden Age page.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this movie! I wish I'd seen it in theatres. Unfortunately, it somehow missed my radar (and perhaps city). I bought it almost immediately after renting it through Netflix and can't wait for the others he's making! Some of the stars interviewed surprised me, like Douglas Sills (a personal favorite of mine), Daisy Eagan, and Marisa Jaret Winokur. There were also a lot of the standard favorites like Angela Lansbury, Jerry Orbach, Patti LuPone, etc.

The varying views were wonderful to hear from the theatre world. It was nice to see that not everyone thinks that the Broadway of old is totally dead. I have hope for the future and recommend this HIGHLY to anyone who loves theatre!

At times, it was a bit too cyical, but I think that the interviews offered enough other opinions to allow for thoughts other than the negative ones.

Little Shop of Horrors, Original Broadway Cast (2003)

Cast: Hunter Foster (Seymour), Kerry Butler (Audrey), Dougls Sills (Orin et. al.), DeQuinta Moore (Chiffon), Trisha Jeffrey (Crystal), Carla J. Hargrove (Ronnette), Michael Leon-Wooley (voice of Audrey II), Rob Bartlett (Mushnik), and a very talented ensemble
For complete cast information, see IBDb's Little Shop of Horrors page.

Little Shop of Horrors has delighted audiences for years in many forms. I was happy when I heard it would be going to Broadway, since I had never seen a professional performance of it. When I heard Douglas Sills (one of my personal favorites) was going to be in the cast, I was even more thrilled!

Douglas Sills did a better job as Dr. Orin and the other characters he played than I could have imagined. Kerry Butler, the Rhonnettes, Michael Leon-Wooley, and the rest of the cast also did an amazing job. I really like what Kathleen Marshall did with the choreography of Little Shop of Horrors for its first time on Broadway. I was really impressed with the whole show.

We had perfect seats for this performance, so we were able to see everyone's expressions and the details of the costume and set design. I definitely recommend this revival of a fun show.

B+

The Scarlet Pimpernel, tour, Ahmanson Theatre - LA (2000)

Cast: Douglas Sills (Percy), Amy Bodnar (Marguerite), William Paul Michals (Chauvelin), and a wonderful supporting cast

I thought I was a Douglas Sills fan just from hearing him on the CD and seeing him in the Into the Woods tour. Seeing him in this roll that seems like it was created for him made me a bigger fan than I could have imagined. I was blown away. Amy Bodnar, William Paul Michals, and the rest of the cast also do an amazing job.

The Scarlet Pimpernel is a wonderful story and Frank Wildhorn and Nan Knighton did an amazing job putting it to music. I love almost every single song in this musical and that is very rare.

The cast, costumes, sets, lighting, music, lyrics, story, etc. are all amazing. Go see The Scarlet Pimpernel - it's such a fun show! And, if you can manage to catch it with Douglas Sills, it will be even better. He ad libs a lot and has a lot of fun. The fun he and the cast have with his ad libbing is apparent to everyone in the audience and it makes the show even better. Apparently, Douglas Sills used to improvise a lot more and it would disrupt the show too much (people would break character), so now they've limited him to a few points where he can do whatever he pleases and those parts of the show are even more hilarious than the rest of the musical.
