Aladdin (1992)

Cast: Robin Williams, Scott Weinger, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Frank Welker, Brad Kane, Lea Salonga, Gilbert Gottfried
For complete info, see IMDb's Aladdin page.
Robin Williams is so hilarious and Disney really let him go crazy in Aladdin, which is part of what makes it so special. The story is nothing new, though they added some good things to it. The animation is very well done, the voice actors are great (and Gilbert Gottfried's Iago is fortunately not in it TOO much), the music (composed by Alan Menken) is wonderful! I highly recommend this Disney movie. It's great fun for the entire family. There are so many jokes the kids won't get right away, but there is plenty for them to enjoy, too!
Like most Disney movies, there's a good message hidden in the movie about being true to yourself, which I think is important and it's good that they slide it in there without beating you over the head with it. You'll enjoy the humor, the music, and the animation.

A husband and wife get sucked into their TV and have to survive in the environments in each TV show. Not the best movie, but it is a funny concept and the cast is good, even if the story isn't the most solid one out there. Worth watching when it gets to TV, but probably not worth seeing in theatres. I have a feeling it'll be on TV a lot, since it's an amusing movie that requires no thought.

Death Becomes Her (1992)

Cast: Meryl Streep (Madeline Ashton), Bruce Willis (Dr. Ernest Menville), Goldie Hawn (Helen Sharp)
For complete cast, see IMDb's Death Becomes Her page.
Two rivals in plastic surgery go for learn the down side of immortality in this sometimes comical movie. With the cast, you'd expect a bit more. It was funny, but just got old at points.
Worth renting, but I wouldn't recommend putting it high on the rental list.

Baseball, comedy, and drama - what more could I want in a movie? This movie about the first female professional baseball league and the struggles within it is priceless. The cast is wonderful! The baseball is great, and the real-life drama is such a wonderful story! If you somehow missed it, you must see it now. Then, you can get all the "There's no crying in baseball!" and other quotes that people use from A League of Their Own. A wonderful movie about life and sports when the men are off to war.

The Cutting Edge (1992)

Cast: D.B. Sweeney (Doug Dorsey), Moira Kelly (Kate Moseley), Roy Dotrice (Anton Pamchenko)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's The Cutting Edge page.
As someone who loves hockey, ice skating, and romantic comedies, I thought this was a very good movie. It's a bit of a chick flick, definitely. It's a sweet story about two people from different worlds who end up working out perfectly against everyone's expectations for them.
And even if you're not into romantic comedies, D. B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly are both very attractive, so there's another bonus.

White Men Can't Jump (1992)

Cast: Wesley Snipes (Sidney Deane), Woody Harrelson (Billy Hoyle), Rosie Perez (Gloria Clemente), Tyra Ferrell (Rhonda Deane)
For complete cast info, see IMDb's White Men Can't Jump page.
This story about two basketball hustlers who join forces is very enjoyable. Of course, I could watch Wesley Snipes in almost anything. Rosie Perez played just about the perfect roll for her in this movie. She's always annoyed me, so her role of the overbearing and annoying girlfriend is perfect. The plot is weak, but the story is still entertaining and I'd recommend renting it.

Miss Saigon, Broadway (1992)

Cast: Lea Salonga (Kim), Sean McDermott (Chris), Hinton Battle (John), Liz Callaway (Ellen), and an amazing Broadway cast
I'm very happy that Lea Salonga was still in the cast when I got to NYC to see Miss Saigon. I've listened to her on the recording so much and really can't picture anyone else as Kim. The whole cast of Miss Saigon is wonderful - just as great now as it is on the recording!
The music and lyrics of Miss Saigon are very powerful and moving - especially in Bui Doi. They really take you back to that time period and make you think of how difficult life must have been in Saigon. Claude-Michel Schonberg did another amazing job with this show & Herbert Kretzmer did a great job with the lyrics.
Many people (including our theatre professor at Penn State) have brought up the weaknesses Miss Saigon and the fact that it appeals to the masses by relying on spectacle. While I agree that the helicopter is a bit over the top, as are some of the other scenes, I think it fits well with the time period and makes the situation seem more urgent. I think they did a good job. I see nothing wrong with appealing to the masses as long as you have good music as a base.
