My Fair Lady tour, Orange County Performing Arts Center (2008)

Cast: Dana DeLisa (Eliza Doolittle), Christopher Cazenove (Professor Henry Higgins), Walter Charles (Colonel Hugh Pickering), Marni Nixon (Mrs. Higgins)
For complete information on this tour, see the official My Fair Lady musical site.

I had never seen My Fair Lady live before, so I was definitely curious about this touring production. I hadn't seen the movie in a long time, so there were songs that I'd forgotten were a part of My Fair Lady. The cast is very good, but this is definitely not one of my favorite shows.

The friend I took with me mentioned that he always sees shows like this (I'm not sure if he means older shows or shows without spectacle, he's only seen newer shows with tons of spectacle) as being similar to High School productions and I had to agree a bit on this one. I wonder what he'd think of my favorite shows which are newer, but still lack spectacle (Rent, Spring Awakening, & The Last 5 Years). My other favorite show (Wicked) definitely has loads of spectacle.

I wouldn't go out of my way to get to this show if it's coming to you, but if you're already a subscriber I wouldn't say it's worth avoiding, either. It's a well done production of a classic.
