Miami Vice (2006)

Cast: Colin Farrell (Detective James 'Sonny' Crockett), Jamie Foxx (Detective Ricardo Tubbs), Li Gong (Isabella), Naomie Harris (Trudy Joplin)
For complete info, see IMDb's Miami Vice page.

I enjoyed Miami Vice more than anyone else in the group I went with to see it and I think that may be because I was the only fan of the original show out of the four of us. I didn't expect the story to be amazing. The stories of the episodes of the TV show were normally pretty thin, so why would I expect great things of the movie? Sure, it had an amazing cast. I'll see almost anything Jamie Foxx or Colin Farrell do. But, I still expected it to be mostly like the original Miami Vice.

In my opinion, they did a great job of updating Miami Vice, while still paying homage to the original show that I loved at the time. The movie was more interesting than the TV show and quite a bit more exciting (largely due to the significant increase in budget), in spite of the holes in the plot and the continuity errors.

If you were a big fan of the TV show (in spite of the scary tan of Don Johnson, which thankfully they didn't duplicate in the movie), you should definitely see Miami Vice in theatres. If not, it's probably more of a rental, since there's nothing spectacular about it other than the ties to the TV show.
