Mamma Mia!, Pre-Broadway tour, Shubert Theatre - LA (2001)

Cast: Tina Maddigan (Sophie Sheridan), Louise Pitre (Donna Sheridan), Mary Ellen Mahoney (Tanya), Gabrielle Jones (Rosie), Lee MacDougall (Harry Bright), David Mucci (Bill Austin), Gary P. Lynch (Sam Carmichael), and a great supporting cast

This is a very cute show. The sets, story, and costumes aren't much to write home about, but the music of ABBA is great and the show is fun. I think they did a good job making it seem like the music fits into the story and might even have been written for it. I loved hearing new versions of ABBA classics and the way they incorporate the songs into the story is great. So many times you'll hear a line of a song spoken out of the blue and the music will start a bit later.

The bows are even done as a concert. I've never been to a musical where at the end everyone in the audience is standing, dancing, and clapping. This was a first for me.

The cast is great and the CD they're selling now includes a card thanking you for purchasing the pre-Broadway recording. It's definitely worth getting.

It's wonderfully fun show. Go enjoy yourself.
